House of Carlo Goldoni History
“Je suis né à Venise, l’an 1707, dans une grande et belle maison, située entre le pont de Nomboli et celui de Donna onesta, au coin de rue de Ca’ Centanni”.
It was with these sweet and nostalgic words that an 80 year-old Goldoni remembered the beautiful house of his birth during his final years in Paris. And anyone who visits Ca' Centanni, better known as the House of Goldoni, would agree with him. In fact, the 15th century Gothic building still has all the charm and elegance of the period.
Visiting the House
Visiting the House of Goldoni is a fascinating experience, one that begins at the entrance. Here, in fact, you can admire the characteristic structure of many Venetian palazzi: the portego with the typical water door, the ancient puteal and the enchanting staircase that leads to the piano nobile.
On the piano nobile you can immerse yourself in the theatre of the great playwright: the author’s main works will come to life thanks to a highly evocative display with pieces of period scenery.*You’ll feel like a child again as you admire the old puppet theatre, and you can also savour the magnificent paintings by Longhi, an artist that Goldoni admired greatly.
Make sure you visit the enchanting House of Goldoni. Book your ticket now and treat yourself to a unique experience.
