History of Museo Correr
Museo Correr was named after Venetian nobleman Teodoro Correr. When he died in 1830 he bequeathed a vast art collection to the city, as well as funds and precise instructions on how it should be made accessible to academics and the public. In so doing, the great collector created the first nucleus of the Musei Civici Veneziani. Enriched with subsequent donations, in 1922 the collection was permanently moved to the current museum.
