Located near the Auditorium of Foligno, the Oratorio del Crocifisso was built in three different periods, between the 16th and the 18th centuries, by the Confraternity of the same name.
Heading into the oratory you’ll be able to reconstruct the history of the Confraternity and understand the important impact it had on the city of Foligno.

ORATORIO DEL CROCIFISSO. HISTORY
The Confraternita del Crocifisso was tasked with assisting prisoners and those condemned to death, accompanying the dead as they were taken for burial, helping the poor and needy and providing lodgings to pilgrims.
The original decorations that still remain include the carved wooden ceiling by Francesco Costantini and Cristoforo Lacchi, both of Foligno.
Various artists worked on expanding the church throughout the 1600s including Giovanni Fontana, Giuseppe Bilancioni, Giuseppe Lepri and the Bolognese Giuseppe Maria Mazza for the stuccos and Giovanni Battista Michelini, Carlo Lamparelli, Francesco Bertosi and perhaps Nasini for the paintings.
During your visit you will also be able to observe a fresco that emerged during the restoration work attributed to the French Noel Quillerier, which dates to 1626 and depicts Helen’s cult.
The entire complex, today a consecrated church, is a fine example of Late Baroque Oratory and we strongly recommend all lovers of this style to pay it a visit.
