The Press Museum is one of the most original and absorbing places in Foligno, home to Italy’s first printing press and the place where the first chapter in the history of the Italian book was written.

It was here, on 11 April 1472, that Giovanni Numeister, Evangelista Angelini of Trevi and Foligno goldsmith Emiliano Orfini created the first printed copy of Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy.
800 copies were produced and the paper was supplied directly by the Benedictine monks who managed the paper mills of Pale and Belfiore at the time.
PRESS MUSEUM. VISIT
You can retrace the history of paper production at the Press Museum from the first paper mills through to today as well as the main landmarks in the evolution of printing in the Foligno area. You can admire a 15th century printing press.
