Sanluri Castle is the last remaining medieval fortress in Sardinia still intact and accessible to the public, and is located midway between the provincial capitals of Cagliari and Oristano.
The old town owed its fortune and prosperity to its position, which over the centuries proved strategic from both a historic/military and economic point of view.

SANLURI CASTLE. HISTORY
The medieval castle, constructed in the mid-14th century, was the site of clashes between the Aragonese armies and those of the Kingdom of Arborea. In 1920 it was purchased by General Nino Villa Santa who restored it in order to host the Risorgimento Museum.
VISITING THE CASTLE AND THE MUSEO DEL PANE OF SANLURI
Having entered Sanluri Castle, your visit begins at the “Duca d’Aosta” Risorgimento Museum whose artefacts and documents, such as the ‘Tricolour of Victory’ and the victory address of Gen. Armando Diaz of the Supreme Headquarters, tell the story of the First World War.
The same museum hub also includes the characteristic Museo del Pane di Sanluri - the Sanluri Bread Museum - which guarantees you a remarkable sensory experience as you learn about the art of breadmaking going back to antiquity.
Once inside, take a look at the section dedicated to the typical bread of Sanluri, Civraxu, made with sourdough and the flour of locally-grown durum wheat.
Visiting Sanluri and its Castle is a chance to immerse yourself in the real heart of Sardinia, far away from the tourist hotspots. Book a visit. Get in touch so we can make your trip to Sardinia truly unique.
