The Museum was born from the heterogeneous collections of Diego de Henriquez, an tireless collector and keen witness of the 20th century. The Municipality of Trieste acquired his heritage between 1983 and 1984, officially establishing the Museum in 1997. The section dedicated to the Great War was opened to the public in 2014.
SHORT VISIT ITINERARY
On the ground floor, seven sections deal with the main themes of the First World War. On the upper floor, visitors enter the heart of 20th-century Trieste, exploring the Great War, the rise of Fascism, the Second World War, the postwar period, and biographical insights about Diego de Henriquez.
NOT TO BE MISSED
Don’t miss the Museum’s mission: “to show war in order to educate for peace.” Around 15,000 objects – not all on display –, 24,000 photographs, 15,000 catalogued volumes, and several archival collections provide a profoundly human perspective on history, waiting to be discovered.
