An icon of Trieste, it stands on the hill of the same name, offering magnificent views of the gulf and the hinterland. Since 1936, it has preserved history and fascinating collections, inviting everyone to discover it!
Commissioned by the Austrian emperors, the Castle took shape between 1468 and 1636, eventually becoming a mighty fortress. After major restoration work, in 1936 it was given new life as a civic museum.

SHORT VISIT ITINERARY
The Castle houses the Armoury Museum, with its rich collection of weapons, the magnificent Caprin Hall, rooms dedicated to the history of Trieste, and the Tergestine Lapidary, a remarkable archaeological collection on the Roman city. Temporary exhibitions are held in the rooms of the Fiorito Bastion.

Visit the Armoury and discover the evolution of European weapons from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. Learn about the history of Trieste between the Museum and the Round Bastion. Transportation
On foot:
From Trieste Centrale station or from the Rive, about 20 minutes. As an alternative to walking up the hill, you can take the free elevator inside the Park San Giusto parking lot next to the Roman Theatre. Please note: there are some intermediate steps and steps at the arrival point.
By bus:
From Trieste Centrale station, take line 24 – travel time about 15 minutes.
By car:
From Trieste Centrale station, about 10 minutes – parking is available near the Castle (limited availability of paid parking spaces).
