Palazzo Madama is an extraordinary architectural landmark, whose different construction and decorative elements can still be appreciated today, continuing through a walk in the Medieval Botanical Garden at the foot of the tower.
The palace embodies the entire history of the city: from a Roman gate, it was transformed during the Middle Ages into a fortress and later into the castle of the Princes of Acaja.

Between the 16th and 18th centuries, the Royal Madams of Savoy chose it as their residence, and in the 19th century Charles Albert established there the first Senate of the Kingdom of Italy. Since 1934, the palace has housed the ancient art collections of the Civic Museum, comprising over 70,000 works.
