The National Roman Museum has as its mission the acquisition, conservation, enhancement and use of a unique cultural heritage in the world. This exceptional testimony of the past is promoted and developed by the National Roman Museum, projecting the sense of historical continuity into the future. The requirement to create a ‘Museum of Antiquities in the Capital of the Kingdom’ was announced as soon as Rome became the capital of Italy in 1870. The Museum is reorganised into four sites, each with its own specific focus:

Opening times
Tuesday to Friday from 2.00pm to 7.45pm
Saturday and Sunday from 10.30 to 19.45The last admission to the premises is scheduled at 19.00. The public exit is scheduled for all venues at 7.45 pm, with the Museum closing at 8.00 pm.

- To accommodate the restrictions in place because of the Covid-19 health emergency, a one-way visit route has been established for each of the Museum’s sites in order to avoid visitor flows crossing wherever possible.
Palazzo Altemps
The route includes both ground floor and first floor of the building.

Palazzo Massimo
Entrance from the usual public entrance on Largo di Villa Peretti, 2.
The exit will be from Largo di Villa Peretti.
Baths of Diocletian
Entrance from the traditional access from Via Enrico de Nicola, 78.
The exit will be reached by a different route from Via Enrico de Nicola, 78.
Restrooms will be available for visitors on the ground floor at the Chiostro Michelangiolesco.
Crypta Balbi
The itinerary includes the ground floor, and the second floor of the museum.
The external archaeological area is currently closed to the public.
