The Museo Pignatelli Cortes is a rare and extraordinary example of a house museum in Naples.
A short walk from the Villa Comunale and not far from the sea, it is located inside Villa Pignatelli, a princely residence that still today exudes the taste and elegance of the aristocratic families that once lived there.

HISTORY
A little oasis of tranquillity along the Riviera di Chiaia, Villa Pignatelli was designed by Pietro Valente in 1826 on commission by Admiral Ferdinando Acton, and then sold in 1867 to Prince Diego Aragona Pignatelli Cortes.
The museum was founded in 1955 when Princess Rosina Pignatelli donated the park and the villa with all its furniture, furnishings and collections to the Italian State. Today it is one of the most fascinating places to visit in the city, often hosting high-profile conferences, exhibitions and cultural events.
VISITING THE MUSEUM
Museo Pignatelli Cortes is full of pleasant surprises. Here you can admire period furniture, splendid 19th century furniture, gold-plated bronze furnishings and precious porcelain that clearly transmit the taste and the passion of its owners for the applied arts. On the first floor there is the Casa della Fotografia (Photography House) while the garden is a little oasis of peace far away from the city traffic. Don’t forget to visit what used to be the stables, where you will be amazed by the characteristic Museo delle Carrozze (Cart Museum) opened in the 1970s.
Want to immerse yourself in the atmospheres of aristocratic Naples? Museo Pignatelli Cortes is a little treasure trove you won’t want to miss!
