Nel cuore di Trieste, il Museo racconta storie millenarie: dall’Egitto dei faraoni ai mondi greci e precolombiani, passando per l’Antica Roma. Un viaggio nel tempo che continua all’aperto, nell’Orto Lapidario.
Founded in the 19th century to collect the antiquities of the region, the Museum was built around Winckelmann’s cenotaph (1833). Donations and new installations made it, in 2018, a permanent tribute to the renowned historian.

Accessibility
- Accessibility is limited to the ground floor and garden. Entrance for people with disabilities is at Via San Giusto, 4. To use this entrance, it is advisable to contact the facility in advance by phone. This entrance, accessible by private vehicle, allows you to reach the museum’s outdoor area and get closer to the entrance.

Transportation
On foot:
From Trieste Centrale station or from the Rive, about 20 minutes. As an alternative to walking up the hill, you can take the free elevator inside the Park San Giusto parking lot next to the Roman Theatre. Please note: there are some intermediate steps and steps at the arrival point.
By bus:
From Trieste Centrale station, take line 24 – travel time about 15 minutes.
By car:
From Trieste Centrale station, about 10 minutes – parking is available near the Castle. Limited availability of paid parking spaces.
