The “Domus”, or house, which according to the Emperor had to be “Aurea” (golden) because it had to reflect the light he emitted as the sun God, was built by Nero following the terrible fire that destroyed a large part of Rome in 64 A.D. However, Nero died a few years later and the residence only outlived him for a handful of years: palazzi, gardens, porticos, fountains and statues were soon destroyed, obliterated, demolished. Forgotten for centuries.
VISITING THE DOMUS
Currently the Domus Aurea consists of the pavilion on the Oppian Hill, where you can admire the Nymphaeum, the Golden Vault Room and the large Octagonal Room.
A visit to the Domus Aurea is a unique experience thanks to a site-specific immersive reality and video-based project which enhances the experience with multimedia installations such as the videomapping of large surfaces and virtual reality. During your trip you can watch a “sensory” projection in the entrance hall and enjoy a virtual reality experience in the Golden Vault Room.
You will discover more than you had bargained for every time you visit the Domus Aurea. A place where the architects of the past and the engineers of today have joined forces to guarantee you an unforgettable experience. All you need do is book your visit. We look forward to seeing you!
