VILLA BASSI RATHGEB. HISTORY
Villa Bassi Rathgeb was built between 1566 and 1576 by Giovanni Antonio Secco, a doctor originally from the Crema area: the plan involved a 2-floor residence with a garden at the front and, at the back, a fenced-off garden and the classic vegetable patch. In 1769 it passed to the noble Dondi dall’Orologio family and later to the Camposanpiero and, in 1846, the Zasio. Only in the 1970s was the residence acquired by the Municipality of Abano which in the same period was also bequeathed an important art collection by Roberto Bassi Rathgeb of Bergamo. The villa was subsequently named after the donor and refurbished in order to house his collection.
