The necropolis of Porto is made up of over 200 funerary buildings which formed the southern limit of a large burial ground located on the island between the Tiber and the Fossa Traiana (Fiumicino canal).
The necropolis developed on the sides of the Via Flavia between the end of the 1st and 4th centuries AD.
It is mainly made up of “colombari”, ie burial systems with cremation of several families and represents a great source of information on daily life and on the economic and social composition of the inhabitants of Porto and Ostia.
