The Refectory is part of the Benedictine monastery of Sant’Apollonia, the largest female monastery in Florence, founded in 1339.
After the works promoted in 1440 by Abbess Cecilia Donati, the refectory— a large rectangular hall with a coffered ceiling that served as a dining hall— was frescoed on an entire wall by Andrea del Castagno in 1447.
