On the occasion of National Landscape Day 2026, Villa Monastero invites international visitors on an immersive journey to explore the perfect harmony between the Villa’s eclectic architecture and the Lake Como ecosystem. This tour highlights how human artistry has shaped the natural rock to create one of Europe’s most captivating botanical gardens.

Visitors will have the chance to admire rare exotic species—a testament to the scientific curiosity and travels of the former owners—while looking out from Neoclassical loggias that offer breathtaking views of Varenna, widely considered one of the world's most beautiful villages. How to reach

  • By Train: Varenna-Esino Station

    • Disembark at Varenna-Esino station.

    • From there, it is a scenic 10-15 minute walk along the lakefront. Follow the signs for Villa Monastero, located near the town center.

  • By Bus

    • From the bus stop, follow signs to Villa Monastero (approximately a 5-10 minute walk).

  • By Ferry (Via Lago)

    • Varenna is easily accessible by ferry boat from Bellagio, Cadenabbia, and Menaggio. It is a primary stop on both the Como-Colico and Lecco-Bellagio navigation routes.

  • By Car

    • From Milan: Take the A9 motorway towards Como/Chiasso, exit at Como Nord, and follow signs for Lecco (SS36). From Lecco, follow the SS583 towards Varenna.

    • Address: The entrance is located at Viale Giovanni Polvani, 4.
