PALAZZO BALDASSARRE. HISTORY
Erected between the end of the 16th and the start of the 17th centuries by the Baldassarre dynasty, the palazzo is an elegant building that has undergone numerous transformations over time.
There is little information on its history but the modifications to which it has been subjected can be seen on the building itself in terms of its decorations, the different techniques and materials used, and the evidence of certain rooms having been closed off or opened.
The Baldassarre family were the only owners of the Palazzo, living in it until the second half of the 1900s when the building became public property.
VISITING PALAZZO BALDASSARRE
During your visit you can admire the fossil of Altamura, one of the most interesting Neanderthal fossil artefacts, and view the results of the interdisciplinary studies carried out to date. You will be amazed by the 1:1 physical reproduction of the so-called “apse”, the part of Lamalunga Cave that contains the skeleton of the famous Altamura Man
Come and visit us at Palazzo Baldassare and don’t forget to visit the other two sites of the “Altamura Man Museum Network”: Lamalunga Visitor Centre and the Altamura National Archaeological Museum.
