A few kilometers from Segesta is the Mausoleum which houses the remains of Garibaldi volunteers and Bourbon soldiers who died in the battle of May 15, 1860. This battle began the Italian unification.
The National Monument designed by the Palermo architect Ernesto Basile, was inaugurated on May 15, 1892.
