The Castle of Mombasiglio was a feudal estate as early as the year 1000, originally belonging to the Lords of Carassone, who later ceded it to the Bishop of Asti in 1134. The bishop then exchanged the fief with that of Boves, granting it to the Marquises of Ceva. Over time, the castle passed into the hands of various noble families.
Heavily damaged in the 16th century during the wars between France and Spain for dominance over Italy, the Castle of Mombasiglio became the property of the Trotti Sandri family in 1602, who carried out significant renovations. Inside the castle, on the first floor, is the Bonaparte Museum, which houses the largest collection of original prints and etchings by Giuseppe Pietro Bagetti depicting Napoleon’s first Italian campaign.
