The only example in the world of a humanistic library perfectly preserved in its building, furnishings, and book collection.
In the same building, there are the modern library, the children's section, and the media library. Established within the Franciscan convent by the will of Malatesta Novello, it was begun in 1447 and completed in its structural parts by Matteo Nuti in 1452. The building of the convent, suppressed in the Napoleonic era, was transformed between 1839 and 1886 into a public school; it is currently also the seat of the Municipal Library. A splendid example of a monastic-Renaissance library, it has remained intact in every part thanks to the joint custody of the monks and the Municipality, preserving the original furnishings and an important collection of illuminated manuscripts, as recognized by UNESCO, by including it, first in Italy, in the Memory of the World Register.
