This thematic guided tour explores the dietary habits of ancient Herculaneum, leading visitors on a journey to discover how, what, and where the city's inhabitants ate during the Roman era.
Through a curated selection of stops within the archaeological site, the public will explore some of the most iconic locations of daily life linked to food. From the thermopolium on Cardo III, where quick meals were purchased on the street, to the Decumanus Maximus, bustling with shops and commercial activities, and finally to the domus, where it is still possible to observe the kitchens and understand the dining habits of Herculaneum’s families. The itinerary includes a visit to an authentic bakery, where the entire bread-making process is detailed. On the Ancient Beach—a site of profound emotional impact—visitors will learn how anthropological research on skeletal remains has allowed experts to reconstruct vital information regarding the diet and health of the ancient inhabitants. Finally, the Boat Pavilion offers an exploration into the world of the sea and the local fishing industry. Tours in Italian > Book here Tours in English > Book here

This offers a unique opportunity to delve deeper into the theme of food in the Roman world, bridging the gap between the ancient archaeological site and one of the most stunning Bourbon villas of the Golden Mile (Miglio d’Oro).
