The birthplace of the "Vate" (The Bard), Giosuè Carducci: the first Italian to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Located in Valdicastello, just a few kilometres from Pietrasanta, stands the house where one of Italy’s most celebrated poets was born on 27 July 1835: Giosuè Carducci, recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1906. Although his family moved away from Pietrasanta when he was only three years old, those few early months remained forever etched in the poet’s memories and verses.

The house-museum spans three floors; the middle floor preserves the very room where the poet was born. Inside the residence, visitors can find memorabilia and personal items belonging to Carducci. Many of the furnishings were added at a later date to faithfully recreate the intimate family atmosphere of the poet’s childhood.
Following his death in Bologna on 16 February 1907, the community paid him solemn tribute. The official funeral oration was delivered by fellow poet Giovanni Pascoli, attended by government authorities and leading figures of national culture. This was the first of many honours, including the establishment of the "Giosuè Carducci" National Poetry Prize in 1950.
