Today, it houses approximately 45,000 works, including paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, a major collection of graphic art, and an important collection of films, artist videos, and documentaries.
The building also houses the Art Library and the Photographic Archive of the Fondazione Torino Musei. GAM offers the public an extensive programme of exhibitions featuring Italian and international artists, along with exhibition projects dedicated to cutting-edge contemporary research. The museum holds works by the foremost Italian artists of the 19th century, such as Canova, Fontanesi, Fattori, Medardo Rosso, and Pellizza da Volpedo, as well as those of the 20th century, including Balla, Boccioni, Casorati, Modigliani, De Chirico, Martini, Morandi, De Pisis, and Fontana.

GAM also holds important works from the international historic avant-garde movements, including pieces by Klee, Picabia, Picasso, Ernst, Dix, and Calder, alongside works from the new post-war avant-gardes. This includes one of the most significant collections of Arte Povera, featuring works by Merz, Boetti, Pistoletto, Paolini, Zorio, Anselmo, and Penone.
