ARCHAEOLOGY MUSEUM AND PARK OF CARMIGNANO. VISIT
The Francesco Nicosia archaeology museum, close to some of Tuscany’s main cultural centres, is located opposite the “La Ferdinanda” Medici villa, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2013.
The displays on the two floors of the museum will bring the Etruscan civilisation back to life, taking you on a journey of discovery that encompasses the world of the living and the world of the dead, everyday life and the necropolises of Artimino, Prato Rosello, Grumolo, Grumaggio and Comeana.
Here you will discover some wonderful Etruscan relics such as the ivory objects of the Tumulus of Montefortini and the tomb of the Boschetti, and the artefacts uncovered during the excavations of the populated area of Artimino.
Your journey of discovery through Etruscan civilisation does not end in the museum but continues along the Via Etrusca at the sites of the Carmignano Archaeology Park: from the Tumulus of Montefortini, one of the most important and grandiose archaeological monuments in Tuscany, to the tomb of the Boschetti, and from the necropolis of Artimino Prato Rosello, dating to the late 8th to 6th centuries B.C., to the remains of the inhabited area of Artimino and through to the Etruscan settlement of Pietramarina.
The Francesco Nicosia Museum and Carmignano archaeology park will take you back in time and outline the history of one of the most fascinating civilisations of ancient Italy.
