The museum is housed in the Palazzo Pesaro, one of the most important Baroque palazzos in the city, located on the Grand Canal and designed by Longhena. The principle nucleus of the collection comprises works awarded prizes or acquired at the early Venice Biennial exhibitions. Among these celebrated masterpieces are Judith II (Salome) by Klimt (1909) and the Rabbi of Vitebsk by Chagall. One of the museum's strong points is its vast sculpture collection, including some of the most famous works by Medardo Rosso, Auguste Rodin, Arturo Martini and Giacomo Manzù. Thanks to acquisitions and bequests, one also finds work by such artists as Kandinsky, Klee, Matisse, Moore and Adolfo Wildt, as well as a rich selection of Italian artworks and an important collection of graphic works. After the 2002 restoration (a project by Boris Podrecca), the route through the museum was expanded with Sala 10. A small gallery within the large museum, the room hosts, in rotation, lesser-known works from the collection, experimental work by young artists, rediscoveries and works of video art and video lists. There is a large exhibition space on the first floor. On the upper floor one finds the Museo d’Arte Orientale, which is included in the museum itinerary with a single ticket.
