Antufiev’s research is rooted in the symbolic iconographies from archaic cultures. The oxidised and/or aged surfaces of the ceramics, castings and carved wood evoke ancient discoveries and appear like a “gift" found in the landscape, thus becoming part and parcel with Nature itself. Hybrid identities capable of generating resonances between different worlds and epochs, filtered by the visual culture of the artist’s country of origin (Siberia) and Russia’s crafts tradition in the way materials are treated.
The exhibition is displayed on the ground floor of the building towards the Agorà, where Antufiev’s works strike a dialogue with artifacts and findings within the museum.
The exhibition, curated by Giusi Diana, is organised by the Department of Cultural Heritage of Sicily Region, the Salinas Museum in collaboration with Collezione Maramotti, and has been included in the Collateral Events of Manifesta 12.
