Arik Brauer’s New Pesach Haggadah

Important events in Jewish history are passed on from generation to generation. The Haggadah, for example, tells the story of the exodus of the Jews from Egypt and their escape from Egyptian slavery, which is celebrated every spring at Passover. Passover starts with Seder night, a dinner and traditional family gathering. During the service family members and friends read the Haggadah, which often includes not only text but also illustrations.

Arik Brauer, born in Vienna in 1929, is not only a painter but also a graphic artist, architect, musician, singer, dancer, composer, set designer, and much more – in other words a multitalent. The Viennese artist has created a new Haggadah for Passover. The paintings, which he had designed in 2013 were shown for the first time at the Jewish Museum Vienna. These powerful paintings illustrate the biblical events and provide an intensive insight into one of the most important events in Jewish history.
