Birthplace of the writer and patriot Silvio Pellico

Casa Pellico

Cuneo - Saluzzo

Casa Pellico is a building of Medieval origin located in the picturesque piazzetta dei Mondagli, just beyond the city walls of 1280, near the old Mondagli Gate, demolished in 1890. Thanks to recent restorations carried out by the municipality, one can now once again read the history of the building. The imposing structure is constituted by four frescoed ogival arches. In the sixteenth century the building was expanded upwards, with loggettas on the top floor, now walled.  The early nineteenth century saw the construction of the closed and terraced loggia on the piazzetta level, faced by an elegantly decorated Neoclassical salon. The writer and patriot Silvio Pellico was born in 1789 in the rooms on the second floor. Today, the Museo Casa Pellico is open to the public as a space for cultural events and guided tours.
