Colosseum: Underground and Belvedere

It is forbidden to access the monument with bottles and glasses containers, alcholic beverages and aerosols.

• We inform you that, under art. 4 c.3 a of DM 507/97 ss.mm.ii., as well as under circular 20/2016 DG MU, according to the directions of the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum, tour guides from the European Union are entitled, in addition to free admission, also to free fees for all booking services, guided tour and assistance service.
   
• ON FIRST SUNDAYS OF THE MONTH

​The reservation and pre-selling services are not available on first Sundays of the month, free entrance day. Furthermore, it will not be possible to use the individual open tickets.
 

• NEW ENTRANCE TO THE UNDERGROUND AND BELVEDERE 

The access to the Underground and Belvedere of the Colosseum has been relocated to the Stern entrance, facing via Labicana.
Groups have to show the list on letterhead from the agency, containing the participants’ names and dates of birth. Licensed tourist guides have to show a signed declaration with the participants’ names and related dates of birth. Visitors with a booked fixed guided tour have to show a valid ID card at the ticket office. 

• ​OPENING RESERVATION

​​COLOSSEUM AND CENTRAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL AREA RESERVATIONS OPENING

On Monday 20th August at 9:00 a.m. it will be possible to book tickets with scheduled entrance time for the Colosseum, quarterly availability, for October, November and December 2018. Differently from what it’s now displayed, the items will be: COLOSSEUM TIME ENTRANCE- COLOSSEUM STERN TIME ENTRANCE – COLOSSEUM TICKETS WITH ENTRANCE TIME FOR SCHOOLS.

On Monday 20th August at 9:00 a.m. it will be possible to book for the underground and belvedere tours, quarterly availability, for October, November and December 2018. The items will be: UNDERGROUND TIME ENTRANCE and BELVEDERE TIME ENTRANCE.

On Monday 3rd September at 9:00 a.m. it will be possible to book tickets with scheduled entrance time for the Colosseum, monthly availability, for October 2018. The additional availabilities will flow into the items COLOSSEUM TIME ENTRANCE- COLOSSEUM STERN TIME ENTRANCE.

On the same date and time, it will be possible to book for the underground and belvedere tours, monthly availability, for October 2018. The additional availabilities will flow into the items UNDERGROUND TIME ENTRANCE and BELVEDERE TIME ENTRANCE.

On Monday 1st October at 9:00 a.m. it will be possible to book tickets with scheduled entrance time for the Colosseum, monthly availability, for November 2018. The additional availabilities will flow into the items COLOSSEUM TIME ENTRANCE- COLOSSEUM STERN TIME ENTRANCE;

moreover, it will be possible to book for the underground and belvedere tours, monthly availability, for November 2018. The additional availabilities will flow into the items UNDERGROUND TIME ENTRANCE and BELVEDERE TIME ENTRANCE.

On Monday 5th November at 9:00 a.m.  it will be possible to book tickets with scheduled entrance time for the Colosseum, monthly availability, for December 2018. The additional availabilities will flow into the items COLOSSEUM TIME ENTRANCE- COLOSSEUM STERN TIME ENTRANCE;

moreover, it will be possible to book for the underground and belvedere tours, monthly availability, for December 2018. The additional availabilities will flow into the items UNDERGROUND TIME ENTRANCE and BELVEDERE TIME ENTRANCE

The openings of the reservations are organized gradually and on a quarterly basis in order to avoid any kind of early acquisition and to guarantee tickets’ availabilities as close as possible to the entrance date.

We remind you that the underground and belvedere tours can be booked only online and that the usual purchase procedures are unchanged, therefore each customer can do:
-  for the underground a reservation for 25 tickets a day
-  for the belvedere a reservation for 25 tickets a day
-  maximum 6 places in the same visit for individuals
-  for each transaction the pre-payment only for one entrance time or guided tour for individuals.

Any ticket or service purchased with procedures that differ from those notified will be cancelled and refunded.

• TICKET WITH SCHEDULED ENTRANCE TIME FOR INDIVIDUALS AND FOR GROUPS

The pre-booking of full and reduced entrance tickets for individual visitors and for groups is partitioned in time schedules, with payment required at the moment of booking.
Groups are formed by a minimum of 14 participants and a maximum of 50.
Free entrance tickets with scheduled entrance time can be required directly at the ticket office, by paying the reservation fee on site.

For a better enjoyment of the monument, the visitors will have three different entrances:

• Entrance for pre-booked groups/schools with guide
• Entrance for individuals   
• Stern entrance for pre-booked groups with accredited guide or official tour leader

​At the entrance for pre-booked groups/schools with accredited guide, it will not be possible to welcome visitors not leaded by an accredited guide.
It will be necessary to be at the dedicated entrance 30 minutes before the booked entrance time to complete the tickets procedures and pass the metal detector security control.
A maximum of 15 minutes delay will be allowed after the booked entrance. In case of additional delay the group will not be able to access the monument, the reservation will not be refunded and it will be possible to buy a new entrance based on availability.
 

• SCHOOL ENTRANCE BOOKING

Reservation required with tickets collected at the ticket desk.
European students book the entrance free of charge.
Entrance tickets are free by showing a name list of the students and the teachers, divided in classes, on an official paper of the school signed by the headmaster.
For every 10 students, one teacher has a free entrance ticket and starting from the eleventh student, a second teacher has a free admission.

Non european schools pay the reservation fee.
Non european schools that are going to make a reservation for a regular access to the Colosseum are required to show at the ticket office the ID cards of the under 18 along with a name list of the students on an official paper of the school.

School groups can be made of a maximum of 50 participants.

In case of mistakes by booking school tickets instead of ordinary group tickets or, in case the required conditions/documentations cannot be complied, it will not be possible to enter the monument and it will be necessary to buy new and correct entrance tickets, if available.

This service is not available during the free first Sundays of the month.

• WARNINGS

Comfortable shoes are recommended. 
It is forbidden to enter the monument with bottles, glass containers, alcoholic and spray cans. 
The entrances to the monument along Via dei Fori Imperiali have ramps for disabled people.
The ground floor “First Order” of the Colosseum is accessible to disabled people in wheelchair.
The first floor “Second Order” is accessible with elevators.
Two wheelchairs are available, one for the ground floor and another for the first one.
There are suitable sanitary facilities inside
Attention: there is no elevator available to reach the third, fourth and fifth ring.

• FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH AT COLISEUM

Every first Sunday of the month free admission for all visitors to the site during the ordinary opening time.

Each customer can book maximum 25 products for the same date.
Each customer can book maximum 6 products for the same entrance time.   

It’s possible to purchase the Undergrounds and Belvedere tours only online.

Each ticket with guided tour will be associated with a pre-sale fee of € 2.00

 In the event that, after the inspection of the ticketing staff, the right to reduced or free entrance tickets linked to a service is not matched, it will not be possible to take part in the booked visit or to be entitled to any refund.

 The hourly ticket is valid for 2 consecutive days for 1 entry to the Colosseum at the time booked and 1 entry to the Roman Forum/Palatine during the period of validity of the ticket.
