  • VOLCANIC PLANTS

EMILIA FARO
12 July - 8 September
OPENING RECEPTION FRIDAY 12 JULY 20196.30 p.m.

The Botanical Garden of Palermo is pleased to present VOLCANIC PLANTS, the solo show of theartist Emilia Faro. The exhibition, curated by Maria Chiara Di Trapani, presents an imaginary garden filled with succulent plants of Mediterranean flavour. This is exemplary of the artist 's project to crystallize nature’s poetry and beauty, and to protect it from the erosion of time.Works of vegetable substance flourish spontaneously in the spaces of Tineo. Visitors will immerse themselves in a Mediterranean garden shaped by the artist with an amalgam of resin and volcanic sand and a combination of sculptures, some of which inspired by the technique of hydroponic cultivation (ὕδωρhýdor, water +πόνοςpónos, work), together with a series of watercolors and drawings of grafts of fruit trees, in dialogue with nineteenth-century botanical tables. The focus is to create, as a synonym for cultivating (etymologically "taking care of, developing, improving"), with an attention to the flow of time and the stillness of substance. The predominant colours have shades of indigo, black and pink, symbolising "creative strength, fertility and rebirth".
