Archaeological sites

Boscoreale is a locality on the slopes of Vesuvius, north of Pompeii. For the fertility of the land, it has been inhabited since proto-history and was reoccupied following the eruption of 79 A.D. During the Roman age, it abounded in villas and farms that cultivated the grapevine, olive tree and grains.
The archaeological area of Villa Regina is an interesting example of a country villa and presents a complete picture of winegrowing in antiquity, including a wine cella and a torcularium. The ancient vineyard has been replanted in the immediate vicinity of the villa.
Instituted in 1991, the National Antiquarium of Boscoreale documents the life of the ancient inhabitants of the Vesuvius area, with exhibits from the sites of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Oplontis, Stabiae, Terzigno and Boscoreale. The visiting itinerary unfolds in two rooms. The first is dedicated to the territory’s physical features, such as the sea, hills, and mountains, and human activities tied to these aspects: hunting, fishing and animal farming, with series of significant objects, such as the interesting remains of foods. The second room presents the principal archaeological finds discovered at the Boscoreale site.
