Museums

The Museo Nazionale del Risorgimento Italiano of Turin is housed in the monumental Palazzo Carignano, designed in the second half of the seventeenth century by Guarino Guarini. The palazzo is considered one of the most remarkable examples of Baroque architecture in Europe.
The museum was reopened to the public with a new display in 2011, on the occasion of the celebration of 150 years of Italian Unity.
The rooms host paintings, prints, sculpture, uniforms and period objects, with an exhibition that narrates the history of the Risorgimento from both the Italian and the European perspective. Inside the museum one may also admire the restored subalpine Parliament building: inaugurated in 1848 to host the Parliament of the Kingdom of Piedmont and Sardinia, it then became, in 1861, the first Parliament of the Kingdom of Italy.
The route through the museum is enriched by films on large-format screens and interactive exhibits that allow visitors to learn more about various themes connected to the Risorgimento.
