Museo Diffuso della Resistenza di Torino
A museum dedicated to maintaining the memory of twentieth-century history

Museo Diffuso della Resistenza di Torino

Torino
Museums

The museum was inaugurated in 2003 and is located inside the Palazzo dei Quartieri Militari, designed in the first half of the eighteenth century by the Piedmont architect Filippo Juvarra. It is a “diffuse museum”, aimed to transform the places of memory of the territory and province of Turin into as many elements of a museum tour.
The museum comprises a space for temporary exhibitions and a permanent display. The latter, which features multimedia installations, films and sound, is located an air-raid shelter discovered during restoration work on the palazzo.
The museum's attention is not turned only to the history of the Resistance, but also to the themes of rights and liberty, with temporary exhibitions dedicated to various topics: from the Holocaust to women's rights, from immigration to the Balkan war, from the words of democracy to the issue of refugees.
Inside the factory designed by Juvarra one also finds the Istituto Piemontese per la Storia della Resistenza e della Società Contemporanea (ISTORETO) and the Archivio Nazionale Cinematografico della Resistenza (ANCR).
