A vent’anni dall’ultima mostra italiana dedicata a Henry Moore (1898 – 1986), alle Terme di Diocleziano a Roma viene presentata una monografica sullo scultore inglese con 75 opere tra sculture, disegni, acquerelli e stampe

La rassegna presenta l’intero percorso creativo di Moore, considerato uno dei più importanti scultori del Novecento per l’abilità tecnica e l’inventiva con cui ha saputo coniugare l’astrattismo e la ricerca sulla figura umana. Le sue sculture, anche di dimensioni monumentali, entrano in dialogo con gli spazi scenografici delle Grandi Aule delle Terme di Diocleziano e con la tradizione classica rappresentata nel percorso espositivo del Museo Nazionale Romano. 

La mostra è articolata in 5 aree tematiche.

L’esplorazione del moderno, che mostra il precoce sviluppo di Moore quale erede del primitivismo di artisti come Jacob Epstein e Constantin Brancusi fino al raggiungimento di una crescente astrazione della figura, come accade nell’opera di Picasso e dei Surrealisti; Guerra e Pace, che si focalizza sulla rappresentazione che l’artista dà della sofferenza del periodo bellico e sul suo crescente ruolo pubblico dopo la seconda guerra mondiale; Madre e figlio, uno dei suoi più famosi soggetti, quasi un’ossessione presente lungo tutto l’arco della sua carriera, che – in dialogo con la tradizione romanica – produce immagini di amore materno e protezione; Figura distesa, il motivo chiave ricorrente delle sue sculture, con cui Moore ha esplorato le possibilità formali della figura femminile, resa quasi astratta, in un continuo confronto col paesaggio; Scultura negli spazi pubblici, che comprende opere relative ad alcune delle commissioni pubbliche che lo resero una celebrità internazionale, opere che cercano un dialogo con lo spazio ambientale tendendo alla monumentalità. 

Sessantaquattro delle opere in mostra provengono dalla Tate, che possiede una delle collezioni più ricche e rappresentative al mondo di opere di Henry Moore, selezionate e donate dall’artista stesso. Alcuni prestiti significativi di istituzioni e musei italiani, come la Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna di Roma e la Collezione Peggy Guggenheim di Venezia, consentono di ripercorrere il forte legame di Moore con il nostro Paese, a partire dalla sua prima, determinante visita nel 1925, passando per la sua partecipazione alla Biennale di Venezia del 1948 fino all’amore che ebbe per tutta la vita per la Toscana.

As agreed with the Superintendence, in order to prevent the stockpiling of groups entrance for the entire period of opening of the Colosseum reservations and to ensure more time available for the groups getting closer to the date of the visit, starting from January 2017, the reservations will be open with the following procedures:

60% of the available times put on sale:
Thursday, June 22, 2017 for July 2017
Monday, July 3, 2017  for August 2017
Monday, July 31 for the period September - December 2017 

monthly 35 % of the available times put on sale:  

Wednesday, June 28, 2017 for July 2017
Monday, July 10, 2017 for August 2017

weekly 5% of the available times put on sale  every Monday for the following week together with the annulled or cancelled shifts

We inform you that it is possible to book the last group entrance 20 minutes before the closing time of the ticket office.
